History of Troop 483

Troop 483 had it's first meeting on January 5, 1954 and this year we celebrate our 54th year as a Troop .  The troop was sponsored by the Methodist Men's club, First Methodist Church of Glendora.  Troop 481 had grown too large so another troop was formed.  Ray Biotto was the Committee Chairman, Larry Ratkoviak was the Scoutmaster and Gordon Stith Jr. was the Senior Patrol Leader.  At the first meeting there were 13 scouts.

Originally the troop met at the Scout Hut in the Recreation Park (now known as Finkbiner Park). Some time after 1955 meetings were moved to the First Methodist Church where the troop still holds meetings.

At the time the troop was formed Glendora was in the Monte Vista District of the San Gabriel Valley Council.  Since then Troop 483 has been in the Big Dalton District, Mountain View District and presently is in the Valle Del Sol District of the San Gabriel Valley Council.

Over the years Troop 483 has performed many community service activities.  For 25 years Troop 483 has provided holiday flags service for the city of Glendora.  Annually the troop performs a flag retirement ceremony in conjunction with the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In the 54 years the troop has been in existence more than 92 scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  Many return to the troop to help with troop programs and activities.
